Now, I am not saying that I am a library connoisseur. In my lifetime I have probably visited at most 12 libraries- 7 of which were school libraries. But these libraries, scattered across the world, have made such an impression on me that I have come to view them as entities beyond just spaces filled with books. They are ubiquitous sanctuaries that are separate from the outside world. Even a school library, filled with students, and oh so near the classrooms, is a world apart from the school itself and provides respite from the daily tedium of school. Whenever I go to a new place, I try to find out if there is a public library I can go to. Unfortunately, where I live currently doesn’t have a public library (at least one that I can confidently go into and understand what is going on). Thank goodness I can still find volumes upon volumes of unread novels in my current school library, or my humble family library.
