Food All Around The World
No matter the nationality, the common language humanity has in common is food. There is not a sincerer love than one's love for food. Food is a looking glass. It allows you to gain a glimpse into the culture of a country, city, neighborhood, etc. Food is where you find the inner soul of a culture. It gives you a greater understanding of the people who made it.
In order to further explore how food connects us, we decided to research five countries whose culinary traditions stood out to us: France, India, Italy, Japan, and Spain.
Similarities In Various Cultures
- Rice- Rice is a staple food. It is found in many foods in cultures such as Japanese food, Spanish food, Indian Food.
- Bread--Different cultures have different variations of bread, but when it comes down to it, bread is used in many foods in many different cultures, such as French food, Indian food, Italian food, and Spanish food.

- In Spanish and French culture,they both created a version of Creme brûlée. both have the same concept, however each culture has a different spin to it.
Differences in Various Cultures
- Spices--The different spices in different cultures is what separates them. For example, Indian foods are generally characterized by that curry spice. While Japanese food is associated with soy sauce.
- Some cultures have differences in the types of meats they use. For example, in India, their food is associated with certain religious beliefs which limit the types of meats that may be consumed. Pork and beef are excluded. Many Indians are vegetarians so many Indian dishes may be vegetarian. In comparison, France and Italy's dominant religion is Christianity, which does not limit the types of meat is ingested.
