Overview

The Australian education system follows the primary, secondary, senior secondary and university structure. English is the official and main language for Australia's education system. Although, most schools provide additional language study for their student. Australia has a nations education budget of $489 million (5.10% of their GDP) (2009). They rank 56th of government expenditure on education worldwide.

Levels of Education

  1. Primary School runs for seven or eight years, starting at Kindergarten/Preparatory through Year 6 or Year 7.

  2. Secondary School runs for three or four years, from Years 7 to 10 or 8 to 10.

  3. Senior Secondary school Runs for two years, Years 11 and 12.

  4. Tertiary Education consists of university and college education as well as vocational education training (VET).
