The Singaporean Education system follows a primary, secondary, junior college, university outline. There are no private local schools in Singapore. The quality of school you are accepted into in based entirely off of your end of school level exam. Singapore has a national education budget of S$12.1 billion, roughly 20% of their GDP (2015). Singapore's Ministry of Education works to progress Singapore's education system at every level, ensuring every child has access to the best school they can, and receive the highest quality of schooling. With extensive teacher training and updating of teacher curriculum, today's school are being filled with the most effective and innovating teachers.
- Primary School At the end of Primary school, students take the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). The primary school student's PSLE results determine what secondary school they go to. Another way to secure yourself enrollment in a secondary school through being excellent at the sport or instrument you play.
- Secondary School At the end of secondary school, students take the final exam called O Level. The same exam that secondary 4 students take in Britain, it determines what junior college the student get into. The higher a student's exam score, the better academic institution they can get into.
- Junior College At the end of junior college, students take a final examination called A levels. Still following the British exam system, A levels determine what university a student is accepted into.
- Universities and Polytechnics make up Singapore's tertiary education system. Polytechnics incorporate more hands on approach to learning. Polytechnics offer a three year degree opposed to the university's traditional four or more years of school for a degree.
