Asia

Traditional Foods

Asia is the largest and most populated continent in the world, which just like Africa means that their is a large variety of different cultures and peoples. Asian food however shares a lot of the same ingredients. Some of these ingredients are rice, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds, chilies, dried onions, soy, and tofu. A lot of these ingredients in fact are grown in Asia! In Asia, a lot of the same dishes have different variations in different countries. This also allows for lot of cultural diffusion bringing Asia closer together.

Similarities and Differences to American Food

Asian food in America has almost become more popular than any other type of food. In fact when searching the web for Asian food, instead of finding a description or background information, you will most likely find the nearest 10 Asian restaurants. One of the main physical similarities to American food is that Asian food is very tightly packed on a plate. Where Americans might try and shove a burger, fries, and another side onto one plate, Asians might try and get some rice, meat, and vegetables onto one plate. This is significant because it shows how both cultures appreciate their food and have the resources to eat a lot of food. A significant difference on the other hand is that Asian food does not have nearly as much variety as American food. In Asia, most dishes have a rice, noodle, or broth base. It is very rare to find anything else. This difference doesn't make Asian food in any way inferior, however it definately needs to be pointed out.
