Ever since the days of hunter-gatherers, Australia has maintained relatively the same diet. Due to the amount of agricultural resources available, cattle, sheep, and especially wheat became extremely popular in Australian diets. As time went on so did the variety of food, however cattle, sheep, and wheat have stayed relevant.

In America, a common meal would be a hamburger, hotdog, a piece of cake, and a cold Coca-Cola. In Australia, even though they don't necessarily call the foods the same words, the food is basically the same. For example barbecued snags very closely represent hot dogs, and sausage rolls very closely represent the sausages Americans would have on a roll. A key difference in foods however is that Australians favor extremely savory foods, such as Vegemite. In America, vegemite would make a good majority of the population gag and possibly throw up.
The video below is showing Americans from BuzzFeed trying Australian food. This is so that then you can see if this might be something that you might want to try.
